The sound of music

27 Jan 2009

image 2image 3image 4

In a world ruled by K3 and Mega Mindy, bringing classical music to children is quite a challenge. Luckily, DeFilharmonie decided to team up with Design is Dead for the apparent mission impossible to make a website for children about their orchestra. We mixed, matched, animated and created a fun, playful and very intuitive discovery tour through the wonderful world of violins and wind sections. It earned us –amongst others- an honourable record in Weekend Knack magazine. Beat that, Mega Mindy!

Art gang X

26 Oct 2008

Celebrating 10 years of discovering and guiding young superheroes towards stages, galleries and audiences, a festive website seemed appropriate for Kunstbende 2009. We paved these youngsters’s road to fame with colourful tiles, an extended picture gallery and clear indications of preselections and events linked to the contest.

In order to create some noise and visibility around Pienternet’s SmartAss campaign, our designers went completely loose, which resulted in a series of postcards that many a youngster would kill for and a flyer that will probably never leave the pocket of their pants again.

Amus(eum)ing website

31 Jul 2008

Getting teens and twens to go to a museum is somewhat harder than getting them to surf to a website, certainly when it’s a funky one like we created for AmuseeVous. With curators of Belgium’s great museums watching us closely, we sure felt stimulated to produce a true masterpiece. Eat your heart out, Jackson Pollock!

How to make an online quilt

18 Mar 2008

image 2 image 3

Under the watchful eye of host Villanella, 200 young artists were invited to give the centre of Antwerp a temporary new face. We were invited to give this two day event an online face. Young people making nice things wasn’t just the event’s baseline, but also our mission. We cut and sewed together a Villanella-worthy patchworksite, serving as an online programmation guide and a roadmap both to the arty participants and thousands of talent-tourists.

W@=D@… What is that?

31 Jan 2008

When Sancta Media decided to cross media and borders with this cultural project for kids, we gladly crossed those borders with them. Gently trashing up the cultural heritage of China, Mexico, Mali and India, we came up with a street-artistic website and some Design is Dead-cool animations.

C.S.I. Antwerpen

29 Jan 2008

image 2 image 3

In a CSI-like mission to solve the mistery of a 17th century girl’s corpse, found underneath the foundations of Antwerp, our very own Sherlock puzzled together some unusual suspects, dusty pieces of evidence and medieval imagery to communicate a morbid exhibition in the Rockoxhuis. Or as we say: “Ooggetuigen aan de Schelde. Wetenschappers lossen 17e-eeuws mysterie op”.

This game is not over

4 Jan 2008

To communicate the Villanella Gamezone event, we took a trip down gamemory lane: the immortal Pacman was cast for the leading part, along with a population of old-style pixel extras. Some cheerful company for the targeted gameboys and girls who assailed deSingel that day.

History in the making

11 Oct 2007

image 2 image 3

Storing archeological finds in a museum is a wise idea, for many reasons, but dispalying them online –in a clear, informative environment- as well is an even better idea. The Dutch city of Breda decided to collect its archeological heritage in an online database, where it is accessible for a large audience, and easily browsable by period, by theme, etc. This concept is available for adaptation by other cities.

Weapons of MAS destruction

6 Apr 2007

tweede afbeeldingderde afbeelding

Since museums generally aren’t considered to be the-place-to-be by young people, we decided to be brave and play against the rules. We let our inner rebels break loose and designed a some slightly controversial promotional stuff for the upcoming Museum Aan de Stroom.
